The use of communication devices is highly essential to support the activities of the entire academic community of Makassar Polytechnic Flight School. However, on the other hand, improper usage can lead to issues, necessitating regulation and control of usage in specific places and times where users are required to deactivate or cease operating such devices. The objective of this research is to design a flexible signal-blocking device, determine the level of necessity for jammer devices, and assess the utilization level and ease of use of jammers. This research is of a developmental type with a quantitative approach, aimed at creating new products and testing them using respondent categorization methods through instruments to gather information about the necessity, utilization, and usage of jammer devices at Makassar Polytechnic Flight School.
The results of jammer testing with Telkomsel as the service provider showed that the average network signal would be lost for 5 seconds simultaneously within a range of 1 - 4 meters using Samsung, iPhone, Realme, and Vivo mobile phones. Network signal disruption timing varies across smartphones based on the provider, with Smartfren requiring 6 seconds at a 1-meter range, Indosat needing 6 seconds at a 3-meter range, and XL's network signal disruption being automatic in relation to the time needed for the network to disappear once the jammer device is activated.
